In 2005, ZFS built a pipeline from a local landfill to our facility. Since then, the six-mile pipeline has been delivering methane gas that would have otherwise been burned into the air and wasted. The renewable landfill gas is used to fire two reciprocating engines that produce electricity, which is used to power much of the Zeeland Farm Services facility.
We actually produce more electricity than we use and the remainder is sold to Consumers Energy for its Green Generation Program. The landfill gas is also used in our boilers to produce steam, which helps power our soy processing plant and refinery.
ZFS is committed to minimizing our environmental footprint by using green renewable energy and implementing other sustainable practices company-wide.
In addition, the ZFS administration building was designed to meet Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
By using renewable energy and reducing our environmental impact, we are committed to providing you with healthier eco-friendly products.
