"Green Beans"

In 2006, ZFS built a pipeline from a local landfill to our facility. Since then, this six-mile pipeline has been capturing methane gas that would have otherwise been burned into the air and wasted. This renewable landfill gas is used to fire two reciprocating engines that produce electricity which is sold to Consumers Energy for their Green Generation Program. Landfill gas is also used in our boilers to produce steam. We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint by using green renewable energy, using biodiesel fuel, and implementing other sustainable practices company-wide.

The energy needed to power our processing plant is recovered from a local waste-to-energy landfill via our own six-mile pipeline. That recovered methane gas is used in our boilers to produce steam and to power a reciprocating engine producing 1,600 kw per hour electricity – which powers our soybean processing plant and soybean oil refinery.

ZFS uses biodiesel to operate our entire fleet of 90 trucks and trailers. Biodiesel is nontoxic, degrades about four times faster than petroleum diesel, and has lubrication-enhancing abilities for diesel engines.

Our new ZFS administration building was designed to meet Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. For more on the LEED story, visit www.zfs-zoye.com.

By using renewable energy and reducing our environmental impact, we are committed to providing you with healthier eco-friendly products.
